Amarbayasgalant Monastery was one of the three major Buddhist centers in Mongolia. At its height, Amarbayasgalant Monastery was home to thousands of monks, with about 10 major datsans and more than 50 smaller temples active across the complex. During the period of political repression in 1937–1938, many religious statues, sacred objects, and Buddhist scriptures were destroyed, resulting in cultural losses that can never be fully recovered. Restoration work began in 1988 under the Mongolian government to preserve the remaining structures, and the monastery is still active today, with more than 60 monks.
